History

Originally called JazzMutant, Stantum was founded in 2002 by Guillaume Largillier (as CEO) and Pascal Joguet (CTO) to develop new human-machine interfaces for the creative industry. Julien Olivier joined the team as chief software and hardware architect in 2003, and they created the world’s first multi-touch screen that could track an unlimited number of fingers. The following year, the company filed its first patent and secured an early stage round of funding. In 2005, JazzMutant released the Lemur, a revolutionary music controller that became the first multi-touch product available in the consumer marketplace.

Facing an ever-growing demand from various OEMs, the company actively began working in 2006 to make its unique, patented multi-touch technology available to third-party integrators. In 2007, JazzMutant became Stantum and officially launched its OEM activity and raised additional funds via a Series A financing round led by XAnge PE.

2008 saw Stantum’s first mobile prototypes, a major multi-touch patent grant in Europe and China, as well as a reinforced management team with Etienne Paillard named CEO and Robert Pelissier appointed VP of sales, marketing and business development. Stantum’s mature and proven technology led to its licensing to two leading semiconductor companies. Stantum also introduced the first commercially available all-in-one multi-touch development kit.

So far, 2009 has been an important year for the company, with completion of a $13M Series B financing round and a semiconductor vendor announcing chips with Stantum multi-touch technology. Stantum also showcased an embedded mobile demo that benefits from the latest features from its technology, such as finger pressure and low activation force. It continued its growth with offices opening in the USA and Japan.
