Notes from Guillaume

by Guillaume Largillier, Stantum’s Co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer

Since our previous issue of Touch Point, Stantum was invited to present at the 4th Annual Displaybank US FPD Conference in Santa Clara, Calif., which focused on seizing new opportunities in the thin film transistor, flat panel display and liquid crystal display markets.

Our presentation depicted the available multi-touch solutions and analyzed what technology is suitable for what market and what application and why multi-touch technology must be at the user’s service for an efficient and playful user experience.

Finding the right balance

A good part of the presentation compared voltage-driven matrix and project capacitive multi-touch technologies, including capabilities.

Another contrast was in the responsiveness of these two multi-touch technologies – responsiveness (comprising precision and velocity) being one of the “four pillars of usability,” along with transparency and trustworthiness.

About responsiveness

The presentation concluded with a look at the different strategies adopted by multi-touch solutions providers and how their business models (see example below) can have a direct impact, in terms of price and experience, for today’s users – who have a clear desire to escape from long-entrenched keyboard/mouse systems.

On Sept. 3, Stantum will present at DisplaySearch’s Emerging Display Technologies Conference in San Jose, Calif. The session will focus on “democratizing” multi-touch technology, and we’ll recap it for you in our next edition of Touch Point.
